Seattle Bunker and DTP on the Road

I am on the road again, which I think I mentioned in an earlier post. This time I am out in Seattle and stopped by the Seattle Bunker to hang out, paint, and get a game in with one of the Freebootaz.

So here is another picture from my (now) world-wide travels and pictures at GW on the road. This is my bad hair day at the Seattle bunker. I want to send out a focused thank you to Evan at the Seattle Bunker. I had a great chat with him around closing time, and he is a great guy. He also gave me some incredible help on source lighting the "glowing hand" on my Farseer, new pictures to be posted when I return home.

So while out here, I was lucky enough to get a game in against Commissar Prower from the 40K radio forums. We played a 1500 point game with the following lists.

Autarch (Mandiblasters, WJG, Power Weapon, Fusion Gun)
Farseer (Doom, Runes of Warding, Spear)

6x Fire Dragons
w/ Wave Serpent (Spirit Stones, SCan, TL SCan)
9x Banshees
w/ Banshee Exarch (Executioner, Warshout, Acrobatic)
w/ Wave Serpent (Spirit Stones, SCan, TL Missiles)

9x Dire Avengers
w/ Dire Avenger Exarch (Bladestorm, 2x Avenger SC)
w/ Wave Serpent (Spirit Stones, SCan, TL Bright Lances)
3x Jetbikes
w/ 1x SCan
3x Jetbikes
w/ 1x SCan

9x Warpspiders
w/ Warp Spider Exarch (Withdraw, Powerblades, 2x Deathspinner)

Commissar Prower's list (as I remember)
2x Infantry Platoons (55 models each) with lasguns
1x command squad with commissar
1 squadron of 3 bassilisks
1 deathstrike missile
1 special weapons squad (5x) with 3 flamers

With hills in the 4 corners and a good spread of terrain, we rolled up a kill point mission with spearhead deployment. C. Prower deployed everything on the table, with the deathstrike and command squad on a his hill in the back corner. I deployed the Farseer and Banshees in their wave serpent and the dire avengers in their serpent, both near the middle of the table. Everything else was in reserve with the Spiders deep striking.

After unsuccessfully trying to seize initiative, the game was underway. C. Prower pushed forward with his big squads, and I did the dance trying to position my Serpents to unload their cargo in an advantageous fashion. Overall this was a great game with some very good moments.
  • Turn 3 when my Banshees launched into combat with the nearly full strength infantry platoon (with no doom). The Banshees carved up 12 guardsmen and survived the 30+ return attacks. The guardsmen broke and were run down.
  • C. Prower's Deathstrike missile launched turn 5, hitting the middle of the table but only wiping out 1 bike squad.
  • Dire Avengers jumping out of the Serpent and blade storming an infantry squad. Only killed a handful and took a face-full of "1st rank fire 2nd rank fire" in return. After 90 return shots, only the Exarch successfully survived.
  • Final combat between Bike squad and the command squad. At the end of turn 5 the Commissar strikes down 1 GJB with his power sword and the command squad runs down the unit as they flee.
At the end of turn 5, we were tied. C. Prower had killed my banshees, 2 bike squads, and a Wave Serpent for 4 kill points. I had killed the Deathstrike missile, Flamer squad, and both large infantry platoons for 4 kill points. At that point there was 5 minutes before the store closed so we called the game at a tie.

So, its work for the rest of the week, then a red-eye flight back home Thursday night. Overall, its nice to be able to get a game in while on the road.

Warhammer World Tables

I got a good game in this week versus Jay's new ork army. It was a completely devastating loss, but the overall game was enjoyable. I am also scheduled for a challenge game today versus one of the IFL members Dark Eldar. I am looking forward to this game, as I believe he is playing a Witch Cult army. I have never played against DE, although I used to play them myself. It should be a fun game.

I am also headed out to Seattle on the 13th, for the trip that was canceled earlier in the year. My challenge still stands to any of the local Seattle 40K readers. I have time on Tuesday and on Wednesday when I could get a game in. I would love to bring my army along and play a good 1500 point game or two.

That's not the primary purpose for this post however. I wanted to get up a couple pictures of the Dead Tau Project on some of the more impressive tables at Warhammer World. I brought along my Farseer and one of my Dire Avenger Exarchs to take pictures of on the tables there. I have to admit that the 3 big tables were certainly awe inspiring. Each was 12' x 8' and had incredible terrain on it.

Here we have the DTP posing on the "Demo Table" in the Warhammer world Store. Incredible Cities of Death terrain built onto a fantastic table!

Here is the table. Looking close you can make out the DTP models.

And the Farseer.

Next we ahve the "Apocolypse Tau" table. This was just used as terrain for a game so when the previous game finnished they cleared off much of the table. The Tau terrain looks great. You should recognize this from the picture in the apocolypse book on page 74.

I really enjoyed posing my models on this table. It was fitting to my army theme! Here we have the DA Exarch on the top of the Tau Tower.

And the Farseer near the shield generators.

Here we have an incredible Imperial Temple that was shown in a White Dwarf (I believe). I am having trouble finding where this was, so if anyone out there remembers the WD issue or the book its in, please let me know. This terrain was simply incredible, easily filling a 4x6 table on its own.

And here is a close-up of our DTP friends leaving the temple.

And finally we have the "Assault on Terra" table. This was simply incredible.

There were two "chaps" on the table fighting through a large battle for most of the time I was there. They were very generous to allow me to interrupt thier game toward the end of the day and snap a couple pictures. As a note, they were playing an 8000 point game (4K per side), and the table did not look cramped.

That's all for now. It is my intention to get on this weekend and post about my recent games (both vs Jay's orks and tonight's game vs DE). I also ask that anyone interested in playing a game while I am in Seattle let me know.
